Last Night at the Opera House
Intro
Last Night at the Opera House is a multi-user (5), interactive, LBE, Virtual Reality (VR) murder mystery experience in 6 DOF and 5 Acts.
You play a famous Taiwan Opera character touring the countryside with a local opera troupe or the manager of an Electric Flower Car outfit who has sponsored tonight’s performance.
Mr T., the leader of the Opera troupe, has been murdered and Sam Diamond, P.I, happens to be on location investigating. Unlike in a classic whodunit, where audiences follow the investigation of the private detective, this experience follows your take on the events.
First, you will choose your avatar, you can pick one of 4 classic Taiwan Opera stage outfits, complete with intricate headpieces, pretty accessories and elaborate make up or, you can choose to be the manager of a traditional Electric Flower Car troupe, think Taiwanese gangster from the 70’s, complete with bouffant hairdo, long collared Hawaiian shirt and funky sunglasses. You will watch yourself transform into your chosen avatar.
Then you get to experience the murder investigation from a 1st person point of view. This experience is 5 VR experiences blended into 1. It means you have the possibility of repeating the experience as a different character with a different outfit and a different outcome.
Once the murder has been discovered, you will interact with the other players to find real clues (murder weapon) as well as fake ones ( theatre props) and start figuring out the circumstances of the murder.
You will also discover your own motive and opportunity to commit the crime.
In the end, faced with the evidence provided by Sam Diamond, you and the other players will take a vote on who did it: who will bear responsibility for the murder of Mr T.
The Story
Samantha Diamond ( 鉆石) private investigator arrives at a Taiwanese Opera theatre, in an abandoned village, on top of an isolated mountain, at night. There is a violent storm preventing the authorities or outside help from accessing the location.
At the scene, Samantha meets you and 4 other people , she also discovers the dead body of a man who has been murdered, Mr T.
You are now one of five main suspects in a murder investigation.
Samantha has a look around and proceeds to interview you and the 4 other suspects. Separately.
During your individual interview you will find out about your relation with Mr T., your possible motive, as well as your alibi.
All 5 of you had good reasons to be angry at Mr T.
Anger, Greed, Delusion, Pride and Doubt are the 5 poisons of Buddhism. They are at the core of most Taiwan Opera plays.
One of these is also your main motive.
It turns out the 5 poisons of Buddhism are not different from the motivations that inspire most people to murder each other everywhere.
